ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s military says its air force has carried out “precise” airstrikes targeting the Taliban in a restive tribal area near the Afghan border, killing 25 militants.
A military statement says the strikes took place on Thursday near the Datta Khel village in North Waziristan, where the army has been carrying out a major operation against Pakistani and foreign militants since June 2014.
The military provided no further details and the identities of the killed militants were not immediately clear.
North Waziristan was once considered to be the headquarters of the Pakistani Taliban, who have been fighting to overthrow the government in Islamabad.
The military says it has cleared 90 percent of the region since launching the operation and killed over 3,000 militants there.
