India continued their remarkable run in men’s volleyball at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. After stunning Korea, India beat Chinese Taipei 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) in the cross match for top-12 places. In modern pentathlon, the lone Indian in contention, Mayank Vaibhav Chaphekar, was ranked 13th in the fencing bonus round.
In table tennis, the men’s team picked up wins over Yemen (3-0) and Singapore (3-1) in the group stage. The women’s team also picked up a narrow (3-2) win over Singapore.
The table tennis teams will be the only Indian athletes in action on 23 September. The men will face Tajikistan while the women go up against Nepal. The day, however, will largely be focused on the opening ceremony in the Chinese city.
