The 19th edition of the Asian Games is gearing up to take place in Hangzhou, China. Although the official opening ceremony is planned for 23 September, certain team sports such as football, volleyball, and cricket will kick off on 19 September. On the inaugural day of the continental spectacle, India will be in action in two events – men’s volleyball and men’s football. The Indian volleyball squad will face Cambodia in the opening match, scheduled for 4:30 PM IST.
India’s involvement in men’s volleyball dates back to the 1958 Tokyo edition. Their most remarkable performance occurred in 1962 when the Indian team achieved the runner-up position. Additionally, India’s men’s volleyball team secured bronze medals in the 1958 and 1986 editions.
In the second event on the day, Indian men’s football team will embark on their journey at the Hangzhou Games with a clash against hosts China. India enters this edition with a surge of confidence following triple tournament wins.
