A British woman has revealed the derogatory comments that she received about her weight while working abroad in Asia ‘as a fat person’.
Anna, 20, travelled around Asia while picking up work along the way. But the once-in-a-lifetime trip was affected by hurtful comments about her weight.
The young woman, who works in the medical field, refers to herself as a ‘gastric sleeve queen’ because she recently underwent surgery on the NHS. But before the procedure, Anna experienced a stream of ‘humbling’ comments during her travels.
Anna told her followers in the clip about the comments she received, which included ‘fatty’ and ‘bigger people sweat more’, and said they ‘altered her ‘brain chemistry’.
Despite Anna’s claim that she ‘found it funny’ because she isn’t ‘easily offended’, many people in the comments thought otherwise.
Anna took to TikTok to share the hurtful comments that she received while travelling around Asia, including being labelled a ‘fatty’
First Anna explained that a nurse tickled her belly while she was working. She wrote: ‘A nurse in A&E tickling my belly whilst I was checking a patient’s blood pressure and calling me a fatty.’
The second incident occurred when Anna took to the beach to take a boat ride. Anna explained: ‘The man handing life jackets out before getting on the boat pointing at me and shouting “You, big life jacket” before handing me the biggest life jacket I’ve ever seen.’
Next, Anna struggled to find a seat belt that would fit over her body during a flight, making ‘Asia the most humbling place I’ve ever been to.’
She explained the situation, saying: ‘The seatbelt not fitting on the plane and them not understanding when I asked for an extender.’
The medic then explained an incident that happened during a shift in a hospital when the fans weren’t working, making it 30 degrees indoors.
But when Anna was dealing with the ‘rough’ conditions, she had to deal with snide comments from others on the ward.
She wrote: ‘The nurses giggling and pointing when I was sweating on the ward and saying to me “bigger people sweat more”. ‘
Lastly, Anna said that when she told a midwife her age, she struggled to comprehend it given her size.
Anna shared several offensive instances, including a nurse tickling her belly while she was working
She wrote: ‘When I told a midwife I was 20 her gasping and saying “so young but so big.”‘
Viewers flocked to the comment section to share their horror at Anna’s experience. One said: ‘Nope I would be crying 24/7.’
A second shared a similar experience: ‘Girl I get it. I’m a teacher in Vietnam and I have never felt so bullied in my life’ to which Anna replied: ‘Humbling to say the least.’
A third added: ‘Rough. You’re beautiful, and obviously intelligent, talented, and adventurous. Keep your ear plugs in for the dummies!’ A fourth said: ‘I could neverrrrr.’
Viewers flocked to the comment section to share their thoughts on Anna’s experience, and many were shocked
It comes after a tourist was shocked when she went shopping in Thailand and was directed to their plus size stores despite wearing a US small.
Andrea, originally from Puerto Rico and Florida and Lewis, originally from Dublin, Ireland, were on holiday in Thailand when they went to a shopping mall to see if they could find some ‘cute clothes.’
The couple live in the US and travel around in an old school bus which they now call home.
They asked a woman there which stores to go to, and she looked Andrea up and down and directed them to the fourth floor, they told their TikTok followers.
However, much to their surprise, the woman had directed them to where the plus size shops were.
Beebee Fat, Moo Moo Fat Girls, Fatty Fat Girl, Love Calories, Fat Cat, were just some of the names of the stores in that sector. Andrea could not believe what she saw, as she stood there open mouthed.
