A former secret agent has revealed how to spot a liar, telling people there are nine tell-tale signs to look out for.
Tracy Walder, from Dallas, Texas, is a former CIA officer and FBI Special Agent who worked as a spy for several years, including operating at a counterterrorism centre during 9/11.
After serving several tours overseas on confidential missions, including as an undercover operative, she decided to swap field work for stateside justice, working for national security in Texas.
However, this doesn’t stop the 44-year-old from sharing what she knows on Instagram, gathering 10,300 followers as she reveals tips you can apply to your everyday life.
She said: ‘I worked at the CIA for five years and became a special agent at the FBI afterwards, which is very rare for a woman. I started two weeks after graduating college in June 2000.

‘I was tired – I loved the counterterrorism missions, but I didn’t wish to be overseas any longer.’
When undercover, it was essential that Tracy could spot liars, helping her avoid deadly situations.
Now, she shares her top tips for getting to the truth with nine tell-tale signs to look out for.
Firstly, be aware of people who use tears to avoid explanations, talk excessively but share no specific detail or explain too much.
Tracy said: ‘They [the liar] may be fluctuating through emotions extremely quickly, going from calm to flying off the handle to crying.
‘This will happen when they feel caught in their lie or are in private. They may try isolating individuals to get their story to match.
‘No specific descriptions yet profuse use of words to explain things while lacking in specifics.
‘They will appear to talk a lot, but no details will be offered. Avoiding eye contact.
‘Extreme over-explanation of simple things and instances.’
