Kate Moss used to be known as much for her hard partying ways as for her staggering success as a model.
But these days, the 90s hell-raiser, who was known for pulling all-nighters, and hanging out with equally hardcore friends, has incorporated more balance into her life – in a somewhat unexpected way.
Among her healthier habits are some little known activities, including moon bathing and recharging her crystals during certain times during the lunar cycle.
And while these activities may sound a little unconventional, they are becoming increasingly popular, thanks in no small part to a growing number of moon influencers.
These influencers often share the spiritual practices they find helpful via TikTok videos, where they discuss topics including how they will celebrate the full moon, and which crystals are most effective when it comes to warding off negative energy.
TikTokker Liberty Ava Walker is among the growing number of moon influencers who share information about rituals like moon bathing and recharging crystals
And although they may appear to be highly alternative activities, a number of celebrities, like Holly Willoughby as well as Kate Moss have spoken openly about incorporating such rituals into their lives.
It may seem an unlikely direction for someone like supermodel Kate, and at odds with many of her previous lifestyle choices.
The 49-year-old, who was born in Croydon, was plucked from obscurity and pushed into the limelight after being discovered at the tender age of 14.
She has since enjoyed huge success, with her modelling work as well as other gigs, including her role as creative director for Diet Coke.
Now, some years after swapping North London for the Cotswolds, she is launching a wellness brand Cosmoss described as ‘self-care created for life’s modern journeys’.
And as part of her own self-care regime, the mother-of-one appears to have incorporated ‘moon rituals’ into her life – including the ayurvedic practice of moon bathing.
She discussed the moon rituals she’s incorporated into her life during a recent interview with the Sunday Times.
As well as moon bathing, which involves ‘lying under the light of the moon in order to absorb lunar energy’, she also charges her crystals when there is a full moon.
The once hard partying supermodel Kate Moss (pictured) has revealed she is into a number of spiritual activities like recharging crystals at certain points during the lunar cycle
She explained: ‘I put all my crystals on a tray and put them outside in the garden. Just cleansing the crystal, charging the crystals.’
The model also revealed that her favourite crystals includes rose quartz, which is representative of love and compassion.
Additionally, she likes melanite, which is said to improve physical wellbeing, including stamina and longevity. She has described the stone as ‘really powerful’.
Interest in the moon is not new, ancient civilizations worshipped it, thinking that because it controls tides, and because humans are made up of 60 per cent water, that the moon must have some control over us too.
But this belief, which is known as the lunar effect, is often dismissed. However, in recent years, more people have been turning to the power of the moon.
Some people who are interested in moon rituals use them as a type of vision board, believing the power of the moon can be harnessed to help manifest their desires.
Holly Willoughby (pictured) even has her own wellness brand called Wylde Moon, where she has blogged about what she does during a full moon
Published in 2020, the book Luna, which was written by Tamara Driessen, discusses these kinds of topics.
Tamara developed an interest in the moon after suffering from burnout and a break-up, prompting her to spend time in Bali to study shamanic practices.
She has previously said: ‘If you look up at the sky you’ll see the moon in different stages; there are eight in total.
‘It all starts with the new moon, which is a time when we feel more introspective, quieter and have less energy.
‘Then when the moon gets more light on it, our energy starts building. It slowly builds to the full moon, which is the peak of our energy.
‘Once people start observing the moon’s phases, they may start to see a pattern.
They may realise that they are often experiencing more stress in their lives during a full moon, and parents often observe that their children are livelier then, too.’
TV presenter Holly Willoughby has spoken out about how she has made the most of the full moon.
After launching her own lifestyle brand, Wylde Moon, in 2021, she shared a snap and video of herself lighting a candle in the moonlight, wishing readers a ‘Happy full moon’ and telling fans how she pays close attention to the moon cycle.
Speaking in a video, Holly told how she lights candles around the full moon and lets ‘knew feelings and energies’ into her life for the next moon cycle.
She said: ‘It was a big day at Wylde Moon today. The full moon behind me, a really powerful one tonight.
‘I don’t know about you, I didn’t sleep very well last night, I had all sorts of weird dreams about being in a cave.
‘The candle launched today and I thought this was a lovely time to share with you what I do on a full moon.
‘I get my candle, I light it and I think about all those things that have happened in the last month that I’ve been working towards that today I feel grateful for.
TikTokker Vial of Venus (pictured) shared her new moon ritual in a clip on the platform, revealing what she does during that point in the lunar cycle
‘We’re all going through a strange time so it’s nice to think about the positives.
‘When the time feels right, I blow the candle out and let all those thoughts and feelings go and I know with the next cycle of the moon, I can let new feelings and energies into her life.’
Another key part of the lunar cycle is the new moon.
TikTokker Liberty Ava Walker, a singer-songwriter with almost half a million followers on the platform, often shares information about her spiritual practices with her fans.
In one video, she discussed what she does during the new moon, and how she uses it as an opportunity for manifesting.
At the beginning the clip, she reveals she is going to share ‘some cool things’ she will be doing during the new moon with her mother ‘who is a witch’.
Explaining that she is sharing the video a few days ahead of the new moon, she says this is so that viewers who want to mark it will have time to prepare and ‘really think about what you want to manifest into your life’.
She continues: ‘So everyone is different but I do manifest on the full moon and I also do manifest on the new moon. The last full moon was very powerful. So it was actually quite a good time to manifest but some people don’t like to manifest on the full moon.
‘So the new moon is a really, really good prime time to manifest what you want into your life. This new moon really focuses on change and bringing super good positive energy into our lives.’
Liberty then describes what she will be doing, which is ‘making a list of very specific and clear things [she wants] to manifest into [her] life’.
This, the singer-songwriter says, can be a feeling within like happiness, or good luck, or any other feeling.
‘You’ve got to write it down in detail as if you already have it,’ she says, before continuing to explain the rest of her ritual.

The TV presenter wished her followers a ‘Happy full moon’, showing how important her moon rituals are to her
Speaking in a video clip Holly revealed how she lights candles around the full moon and lets ‘new feelings and energies’ into her life for the next moon cycle
‘Once I’ve written everything down…I will put my crystals in the cleansing water that I usually cleanse them in, and then I will pop the paper [on which] I’ve written down everything…and I’ll put it in with the crystals so they can charge under the new moon.
‘Then in the morning, new beginnings and of course a little dance under the new moon. Just shake away any old energy or anything I want to clear.’
Another TikTokker Vial of Venus, who has almost 25,000 followers on the platform, also shared some of the rituals she likes to perform during the new moon.
In her video, she explains that the first thing she likes to do is put on a veil. She then goes through a number of steps, including cleansing her space.
She continues: ‘I just like to journal out all my feelings, intentions and manifestations for the month…I just like to sit and meditate with my crystals.’
