After the Chennai concert row, music composer and singer A.R. Rahman has found himself in news again. The reason this time is the Association of Surgeons of India.

What happened?

ASI filed a complaint against Rahman, alleging that the singer-composer received a sum of Rs 29 lakh from the association for performing at its 78th annual conference in 2018, he failed to turn up and never returned the money.

Rahman has now sent a legal notice to ASI, demanding Rs 10 crore compensation for defamation, and has asked the association to withdraw the notice within three days.

“The amount claimed was never paid to me, but to a third party Senthilvelan and a group of companies of Senthilvelan. Knowing fully that the association has no money transaction with me, they have chosen to drag me into the controversy,” Rahman’s reply reads as per a report by Times of India.

Rahman‘s Chennai concert controversy

The musical concert of the Oscar-winning maestro in Chennai, titled Marakkuma Nenjam, turned out to be a nightmare for fans. Several fans in thousands made their way to witness the concert, which was held on the outskirts of the city. While music lovers were excited to see their favourite musician perform on the stage, many of them took to X (previously known as Twitter) and revealed that the concert was overbooked and they were not allowed to enter the show despite having a valid ticket.
